I was riding my bike through a local park today and this girl was looking down at her phone on the other side of the path and she looked up and asked "Pokemon Go?" as I came by. This game brings people together!

Yeah I've met a lot of folks in my apartment complex while Pokemon hunting.  It's also given my girlfriend and I a lot of reasons to wander town and look like dummies just standing around with our phones out in random places.

It does! There's lots of stories out there of bringing people together. Check out a few:

Lots of reports of cops and kids hanging out late

These cops saw their lure

Fun Story 1

Spoiler

The night started with an Abra appearing around a young circle, my gf and I just dropped her kids at home after a long birthday party and we soon rushed off to rack up some poke balls.

We start planning a route of the best way to collect as many pokestops as possible and we rode off. After the 5th or 6th repetition of the cycle we noticed an Abra as well as a lure off in the center of this "young circle" area. We were there the night before and saw some people, talked and hung with them and so we parked but..what followed was the least I expected.

Not to bore too much and to keep it short, the funnest and craziest experience was someone shouting that they had a snorlax on their nearby Meter and that's when we went CRAZY. Everyone spread out, every direction, if anyone got down to "2 feet" yell it out! And maaaaaan as soon as I saw that I was getting closer, I SCREAMED...no...I HIGH PITCHED SQUEALED "III FOUND HIM!! THIS WAY!!" only to be surrounded by the echos of "THE FAT ASS IS THIS WAY!!" as 20 people ran to catch up, everyone looked at their poke device with levels of hype beyond anything I've felt in years.

Finally we reached him and you can see the instantaneous reaction of trainers pointing ahead of us at a crossroad "THERE HE IS" ..and you knew..without having to see him..that he wS there.

God that was epic. 864 snorlax. Best feeling ever

Suffice to say that we stayed as a group till 4 30am where we got to a 3 pokestop corner and set up 3 lure + incense + magic egg.

Nearly got 200 pokemon in 1hr 30mins plus everything else.

Best night in the longest with strangers. Had fun the entire time.

Thanks everyone. Honestly

Story 2

Spoiler

So me and my work partner for this week are both Pokemon fans. We are both paramedics and work at a fire hall. We installed PoGo on our first day (2 days 2 nights) and have been trolling around in the ambulance catching Pokemon ( I know we're dirty).

This has lead to my most bizarre nightshift with the city. We respond priority 3 (no lights or sirens) to a MacDonald's at 3 in the morning for a Male in the bathroom check well being. Dudes been drinking heavily but has no additional medical issues so we take him to our city's drunk tank. (Has a detention side and a shelter side)

On the drive I turn on Pokemon Go and drive slow so I can get some distance added to my eggs. 15 minutes go by and we get to the tank.

THE DRUNK TANK IS A POKESTOP!

Oh man did we both laugh. But we parked and waited for cops to come search and escort our pt in. A few minutes go by and a shelter worker comes out and tells us that there was a seizure inside the shelter and the tank's medics were occupied with that and won't be available for about an hour or so. The tank's medics need to approve every pt before they can enter so we were stuck.

That's when the greatest idea occurred. Our pt is sleeping, we have about an hour to kill and we are sitting on a poke stop.

So at 5am these two paramedics took turns dropping lures on the drunk tank and caught Pokemon for an hour while our pt caught Z's in the back of the ambulance!

For my own story:

Pulled up to a gym yesterday, added my poke to the Red Team gym, a couple guys parked near by go "RED TEAM YEAH!" I yelled back. We left a couple mins later. My wife and I went out to dinner with her parents (65 and 75) and we talked about the phenomenon all night. We went to a local campus where there were a ton of pokestops and gyms. They were loving it. We ended up finding a lure and stopped by. The two guys who yelled RED TEAM YEAH earlier were there, I recognized them. We chatted more. In laws loved it!

So I got it to work a little better. I walked a couple blocks, caught a Caterpie, Totodile, and Pidgey. Thoughts...

- for one, I think the concept sounds fucking awesome and that's why the app being seemingly broken was so annoying.

- the Pokemon popping up on your camera is so cool.

- everything else positive has already been said, so I'm going to throw out a couple criticisms....

- so... You just throw the balls at the Pokemon and catch them? No battling? What's the point of catching them then?

- and finally, in the literal five minutes I spent on the app, my phone went from 19% to 13% before I decided it might be a good idea to go back home. With that in mind, I'm not sure how practical it is to use this when I'm out and about, especially with the sun forcing me to turn my brightness up.

Having said all that, the whole concept is cool enough that I'm looking forward to spending more time with it. While its apparent usefulness in meeting girls is admittedly intriguing, I'm not sure how comfortable I am with it. I never go for that sort of thing because I'm just not good at pretending to be a different person.

I downloaded it this morning. I had a few errands to run, so I found some while out and about. However, I also just walked around my neighborhood for 40 minutes, didn't catch anything, and my phone went from 84% to dead.

On the one hand, it's getting people to go out and exercise even when it's hot as freaking balls outside down here. On the other, I live in a residential area where the closest Pokemon hot spot is a few miles away. I would think it's easier for people to catch them that live in a big city.

Glad you got a better taste for it.

Yes, the battery get MURDERED with this thing. If you plan on playing consistently, I'd highly suggest a power bank. These ones are hella popular right now for a high quality one but that's also decent cost:

Yeah, the battling is not what it once was in the handheld versions. Right now, you have to catch a lot of pokemon to evolve them, then use them in the gyms. (It's kind of the opposite as before - catch a lot to give experience/evolve and then fight rather than catch a few, fight to gain exp then evolve). The gym is really the only fighting you have. It's not a great battle system. I have hopes that they're going to improve it in the future. They've already commented that they're in the works for developing stuff to "keep people around longer" which I assume is stuff like better battling. Trading has been confirmed to come eventually. They also have another 5 generations of pokemon, legendaries, shinies, etc.

There's lots of calls from a lot of players to fix this - to make it an easier way for rural players to be able to participate. I don't know if anything will come of it, but I know people are calling for it.

I put in some work this weekend :)

Do the green sparks on the map have to do with anything? I noticed earlier today when I was walking in a shopping center, I saw some nearby and BOOM! Caught something.

It's meant to be shuffling grass leaves, which indicates that a Pokemon may be lurking there.

A couple of my co-workers on our lunch break are going to go down to a spot where there's three pokestops clustered in one area, drop down some lures and incenses and rake in the pokemon. Sometimes it feels good to be an adult child!

Lures are kind of lame from my experience with them. Seems they bring more people than Pokemon

The best thing to do is find a pokestop area with 2-3 pokestops all tight within one area. Put a lure down for all of them. Then put down your own personal incense. As far as I know, everything stacks, so you should have an endless supply of pokemon + balls from the 5 min refreshes on the stops.

Holy fucking shit. Even with how outrageously popular this is, those numbers are insane.

And those numbers were with the servers being VERY poor and not even hitting the weekend yet. I bet they're even higher on the weekend.

My office is next to a church, which happens to be a Pokestop, so I've been catching a bunch of Pokemon at my desk while working.

I walked around the office complex during my lunch break and found a Zubat. I didn't realize it, but I threw 19 pokeballs at it and was unsuccessful. Now, I'm out of them. Does anyone know if I can eventually get some back without buying them?

Yes - that's what the pokestops are for (mostly.) If you walk around hitting those, you should get anywhere from 2-4 each time. Most people are either oversaturated in pokeballs and have to toss them away, or they're completely out. It really depends on how many pokestops are nearby.

If you ever start to maintain a pokemon Defender status at a gym, you'll gain pokecoins there daily and you can buy balls with that, too.

Anyone who catches a lot of pokemon while standing still (while not at pokestops) is bound to run out of balls. It's kind of the game's way of forcing you to "GO" imo.

I'm not really too concerned with the robberies and the injuries from playing. (I mean, as a detractor to why Pokemon Go is bad or shouldn't be played.) People get robbed and get injured just walking down the street. I saw recently a former NFL player was killed because he was jogging on railroad tracks with his headphones in...

It's the same for Pokemon as it is for all technology: Use it intelligently.

Good news for all Pokemon Go fans who want to see improvements. It's been confirmed that we'll be getting updates every 2 weeks! Not necessarily huge, game changing updates, but improvements none the less. This makes me so happy to hear that they aren't just releasing and forgetting about i

It won't let me edit my image above, but I was looking for Pokemon on my lunch break and ran into two iguanas running across the parking lot

Only in Florida

Haha that clears that up. I'm looking at the pic thinking: "is...is that a Pokemon in the AR? It looks real."
