Voting for Descendants because they're the band I can tolerate.
  2. pen gave reputation to Green Baron in Fall Out Boy - Mania
probably because they realized it's not going to be good
(yeah, I didn't like Young and Menace - or Champion, for that matter, but I'd have to say that's the better of the two)
  3. pen gave reputation to Omar in 10 years new album
The guys are one of the bands who would complain about the "machine" holding them back yet they haven't gotten close to the quality of their three major label albums. That was an amazing three album run.

I'm not mad about it or anything, it was a memorable experience. The bulk of the fun doesn't seem to be in the confrontations, but in the suspense of exploring and scavenging not knowing when one might happen. It's a really terrific atmosphere, with no music, only the sounds of bullets being fired in the distance or artillery drops from above, along with your own footsteps.
It definitely seems like it'd be more fun with a team, though, from watching the AH crew's videos.

Because @Mike first declared the forum dead seven years ago obviously.

I have mixed feelings on the current conversation as I talked with my mom about this a little while ago and she feels suicide is a cowardly act, but I think that's because we're used to seeing suicide in terms of people using it as an out or an escape instead of finding the help they need.
But if there's someone who is being helped or trying to get help who just reaches a point where the depression is so crippling that they believe fully that suicide is the only solution for themselves, or worse, for their loved ones... what then? How do you help that? I've been low before but I can't imagine ever feeling that low.
I think it's also that whenever we lose someone we care about, one of the steps of grieving is passing the blame, and in the case of suicide, there's really only so many people who can be blamed. It's easy to think that if someone only thought of the people who loved them, that they'd change their mind, but you guys are right in that it doesn't work that way.
I dunno, it's such a complex issue. And it's a shame we'll never really know why Chester or Chris killed themselves. Their families and bandmates will never get that closure. Their fans will never understand the reasons why. Head isn't wrong when he talks about setting examples and people who turned to Linkin Park to ease their own depressions may be disheartened by Chester losing the fight.
Honestly, the whole thing just makes me upset. I remember Linkin Park was the band that really sold me on heavier music. Up until Linkin Park, I was listening mainly to bands that crossed over on pop stations or the odd rock band I'd hear at my high school, but I never listened to Korn or Godsmack or Slipknot and never considered them until Linkin Park became a gateway for me to that world.
I still remember hearing Crawling for the first time, walking to the TV to watch the video, and scrambling to the internet to figure out what the hell I just witnessed. Linkin Park will always be one of my favorite bands and I only hope that the remaining band members find some way to carry on, as monumentally difficult as I'm sure it will be.

If you're going into a movie ready to nitpick it, don't bother watching it in the first place
  8. pen received reputation from Lucas in Theory of a Deadman - 'Wake Up Call'
Eh. The lyrics are dumb, but Savages was a step back in the right direction and I'm hoping this album continues that thread, even as they continue to pander to the lowest common denominator.
  9. pen received reputation from Kalt in RIP Chester Bennington
Not to press my perspective, but I'm curious why you don't think they'll continue the name. Certainly there are several examples of bands that have continued on after the death of a band member, vocalist included. I'm not saying they will keep the name, it's equally likely they won't, but I'm curious why you seem to favor one side.
  10. pen received reputation from heldjc in Game of Thrones
To be fair, Sansa has made good points even if they've been at inopportune moments.
I think you forget that Sansa did not forgive Theon at first and outright said to Theon that she didn't care if Ramsay abused him. She started trying to trust him out of necessity and Theon ratted her out. It wasn't until Theon woke up and helped free her from Ramsay that she started coming to terms with forgiving him. Also, Theon confessing that Bran and Rickon weren't dead probably helped.
The relatives of the houses that betrayed the Starks for the Boltons haven't proven themselves allies yet. Therefore she currently has every right to distrust them, and to be fair, she wasn't calling for them to be killed or massacred, just for their ancestral homes to be turned over to loyal families. Jon does however have a good point in that the relatives that were innocent shouldn't suffer for the sins of their elders.
It kind of illustrates the differences between Jon and Sansa. Jon during his time in the Night Watch dealing with the White Walkers had to learn the importance of banding together for a common cause. Sansa on the other hand has had experiences that have put her in a position where she has to be wary and distrustful of people who may have ulterior motives. She's less forgiving because that's where her experiences have led her.
The only fault I think is that Sansa has been debating with Jon fairly openly, which is not a good look if they want to remain strong in the eyes of their allies. But I also think it's being done partially out of concern, because of everything that's happened to their family. She doesn't want Jon to suffer the same fate as Ned or Robb. And I also think she's wanting to have her voice heard as an authority figure after spending so much of her life being made to be submissive.
Anyway, I feel like since Jon put her in charge while he's gone, that's a sign enough of respect and acknowledgement that she's satisfied because it means Jon trusts her. We'll see if Littlefinger fucks it up though.

Immensely debatable but for another place and time.
Personally I'm fine with whatever they decide to do as it's their decision and their careers. I feel we probably won't get a firm idea of what their future holds for a long time yet though. I do however feel that if they choose to stay together and continue as a band, I'm almost certain they won't change the name because that would be discarding the years of cachet they've built up under that brand. I could very well be wrong as this is a complicated situation that's very emotionally charged and it's hard to know what the best path of action would be, but I just have a hunch that Linkin Park will move forward.

You say you knew what I meant but I'm still not sure if you do. I don't mean an emotional void, I mean a physical void. There is a frontman position open. Anyone who takes that position is a replacement for the previous frontman. It doesn't matter how you feel about how that frontman left the role, anyone who takes that role now is a replacement by default.
And speaking of silly discussions, I think your comment about "forfeiting his right" is incredibly insensitive. There may not be a void for you, but certainly there's a void for his family, friends, and bandmates. I'm really not sure what you're trying to say with that.
  13. pen received reputation from Kalt in RIP Chester Bennington
The problem with this is how unfair it would be to the band to deny them the chance to continue. Why should their careers and overall goals be disrupted because of Chester?
That being said, I can equally see them hanging it up out of respect or just with it being too hard to continue. Frankly though, I'm more in the camp of them rising past this and continuing on. I mean, would Chester have wanted them to quit?

I mean, by definition he's a replacement. He'd be filling the void left by Chester.

All day I've had this in the back of my mind as I've worked on other things and I think only now is it really starting to hit me. Mostly just the question of why it happened, why these things happen, why are they still happening, etc. You would've thought that Cornell's death would have put a spotlight on getting help and trying to overcome this sort of tragedy, not lead others to join. But then Cobain and Staley's deaths didn't keep Weiland's death from happening, so I guess history doesn't really teach lessons so much as patterns. There's just too much death in the music industry. Williams, Strait, Static... I realize not all of these deaths were necessarily preventable, but it just raises concerns about how much people are paying attention to their health and the world around them. How many more have to die before we start taking these issues seriously?

Hahaha oh that was some much needed levity for this thread.
Does he seriously not realize he only gives us more ammo with shit like that.

Linkin Park is still an incredibly popular band amongst people my age and younger who are into rock, more so than any other band. A lot of people I know were raised with the band, grew up listening to a lot of their songs and were affected a lot by Chester's death, which is something I didn't notice with any of the other deaths. Yes, I was born when Hybrid Theory came out. I've noticed the Minutes to Midnight-era stuff is what people love as well, which makes sense because that album came out at a perfect time for us to listen to. They were still very much "our" band, even if we were on the younger end of the spectrum.

Dude, not trying to be a dick here but arent you still a teenager lol. He was the voice of a generation to people who are in their late 20's and early 30's now. Come on, man. Where you even born when Hybrid Theory came out ?
  21. pen received reputation from American_Idiot in MM2017 Round 1, Set 16: The Dillinger Escape Plan vs. The Veer Union
The Veer Union has always been just alright to me; an active rock also-ran that puts out songs that are listenable enough to be enjoyable but generic enough to be unmemorable.
And then we have Dillinger, which is completely outside the realm of my tastes. It's dissonant, it's abrasive, and it's manic.
I'm voting for Veer Union just on the sheer basis that of the two, it's the band I can listen to without suffering ear damage.
