  1. I watched the end of the WWE title match, what a total farce. They can't even come up with decent fucking finishes for shitty Jinder to retain with. It feels like WWE actively trolling its audience, especially with the obnoxious "shocked upset fan" shots they keep cutting to. I was playing a video game during the main event but what I saw of it looked pretty rad.
  2. Yes I skimmed the results and I'm very happy to see that I elected to skip this. I may tune in for the world title matches but maybe not. Also I'd say Bayley beats Sandow, Ziggler, and Wyatt for biggest booking disaster in modern WWE history--and a shame, because she's better and had a higher ceiling than all of them. She sounded totally defeated on Austin's podcast, like she almost hopes they'll turn her heel just so she can get a fresh start. I'm horrified to see how they'll ruin Asuka.
  3. Yeah that's where I'm at with him as well. I was a fan on the condition that he would get better with time, but he's gotten worse.
  4. Plus I pretty sure I saw a thing where one of the developers said it would probably come to PS4 next year.
  5. Nah, Nigel's good. Not "my boy" though, just a guy who is generally agreed upon as a solid commentator.
  6. One negative from last night: JR was horrible on commentary. It was unfortunate to hurt the Itami match with it, and confusing since he was great in Chicago for the Bate/Dunne match. It legit sounded like video game commentary.
  7. Dude Triple H vs Cactus Jack is the program that made me fall in love with wrestling as a wee kid. I compared McIntyre to 2002 Triple H because he's a lame brooding miscast babyface. This is purely from a character standpoint, as McIntyre is a way better worker than 2002 Triple H.
  8. 1. Well it doesn't seem either are coming up right now anyway but what exactly is so great on Raw or Smackdown that they couldn't use a midcard tag team or an outstanding worker with charisma and a super hot valet? 2. No, in this analogy McIntyre is long-haired brooding not terribly interesting H and Roode is smarmy short-haired rich H. And at the end of the match, 1998 H showed up with DX. (these are all jokes, just so we're clear) 3. Oh I'm very happy Asuka won. I'd have her beat Ruby Riot in her next defense on NXT TV, and then drop to MYC winner Kairi Sane at the November Takeover. Moving her up to the main roster undefeated sounds great in theory, but the reality is I don't have it in me to be this invested in something great only for it to "pay off" on a random episode of Raw two weeks before a PPV for no reason. I want all great things that begin in NXT to conclude in NXT, where it'll be satisfying, unlike a million meaningless Zayn/Owens TV matches.
  9. I'm torn between the opener and Itami/Black, but Asuka/Moon could also be it with another watch. Really competitive field. I thought the main event was very well worked but fell flat with the crowd, so I'm not sure. I mean, mechanically, it was probably better than the tag match, but the tag match had so much more excitement. Adam Cole instantly felt like he belonged. I was pretty high on him a few years ago when he was feuding with Elgin but he'd kind of fallen off my radar as I stopped paying attention to ROH. When he took his jacket off, I was instantly reminded of why I liked him. Dude has swagger. Also, I share Uncle Paul's love of live bands accompanying entrances, though I'm not sure a hardcore punk band was a great fit for a giant seated arena of people who'd never heard of them. Still, I appreciate that NXT gets actual good music for the Takeover shows.
  10. I'm just concerned about Drew. NXT's biggest blind spot for a while has been bland top babyfaces (ever since Sami left, really), and Drew doesn't have the charisma of Nakamura to pull it off, so I really hope they find a way to get him properly over at the next tapings if he's going to be feuding with Cole. He obviously has the tools, but I'd still be thinking about turning him heel if it weren't for that clearly not being the direction now. If he's going to stay face, they really should at least give him his old music back. The bagpipe-accompanied sludge metal theme is neat, but it's a horrible babyface entrance.
  11. It wasn't quite as good as the most recent one in Chicago, but that's a very high bar to clear. Together, both shows are easily the best NXT's put on possibly ever--only one I'd put above either is R-Evolution and maybe the first Brooklyn. First match was awesome, second match was a blast, third and fourth matches were awesome, main event was pretty good, and an exciting debut. If you add Roddy to that main event like they should've (it's really bewildering they'd swing and miss on that so hard when they nailed every little detail on every other part of the show) I think it'd be a perfect wrestling show. Even as is, there's not really a shot in hell that six hour slog of a Summerslam card tops it, even though I think the Raw tag match and main event could maybe be match of the weekend. What's your MOTN? I've seen four different matches get the honors depending on the person.
  12. Now for the main event... 2002 Triple H vs 2015 Triple H.
  13. Trips putting on a booking masterclass, two matches in. That Sanity/AoP match was SO much better than it had any right being, and got everybody involved more over, and ReDRAGON! Terrific. Also, wonderful opener with a good and unexpected finish. Let's push Almas, he's clicking now.
  14. I got McIntyre, Moon, Black, Gargano, and AoP tonight. Think Almas and Sanity are coming up soon. Asuka... might, I just really don't see where she fits in the shitshow of main roster women's divisions. After her run in NXT, who the hell wants to watch Asuka vs Carmella or Alexa Bliss or Naomi?
  15. Well, if it makes you feel better, you're not the only one dealing with disappointment. I was thinking of driving down to Oregon Sunday afternoon, fully aware that traffic would be horrible, and finding some random spot in the middle of nowhere to park the car and chill out until the eclipse. Now I'm reading stuff about wildfires, and traffic being backed up for potentially DAYS, and it being recommended to pack like a week's worth of water and food in your car. That just isn't do-able, especially since I have to work Tuesday afternoon. So I'm guessing maybe I'll find somewhere closer by to check it out, or maybe even stay in town. It's like 90% coverage here, but people who've seen it are really stressing how huge of a difference it is between high coverage and totality--I saw someone describe it as the difference between almost dying and dying. Like, anybody who goes out of their way to see anything short of it is going to be underwhelmed, and anyone who sees it is going to experience a near religious experience.
  16. Try Craigslist, I just snagged a pair from some dude who stocked up on them for ten bucks after I read this. Just be sure you know how to check if they're legit (the ISO 12312-2 number, and you can sight check by just putting them on and if literally anything other than the sun gets through them they're fakes). I just now got caught up in the hype and decided I might run down to Oregon Sunday night.
  17. No classics or name changes in the PS4 5.0 update, just a bunch of lame shit nobody cares about. Thanks Mike.
  18. But it's important to note that at this rate, if indictments do happen, it's highly likely Pence will be amongst them. It's possible he covered his ass bigger than the chief dumbshit, but it seems pretty clear that nobody in this administration is truly. Granted, next in line is... Paul Ryan, but I bet that guy would be the least approved president in US history. Nobody respects him. Even Trump fans tend to think he's a worm. But the sad truth is, you've got like sixteen indictments to make before you get to anyone decent, so just getting somebody who can unite the country in thinking he's a dipshit might be the best case scenario. I hope that if Dems manage to get a majority again next year, the first priority is passing a bunch of legislation to safeguard against this type of shit ever happening again.
  19. Probably not the BEST example to use in Evolution, because their two matches with the Shield were better than anything they ever did the first time around, even if it lacked the "past, present, and future" dynamic that made them memorable. But I agree, not into a Shield reunion. All three guys have been terribly misused as singles stars but that doesn't mean throwing in the towel and making them a group again is the right call.
  20. They say like 4000 theaters are covered, which, if my memory from my box office tracking days serves me correctly, I believe should be almost every major theater in the country. Only the very biggest releases usually made it into 4000 theaters. But they should probably get their shit together with the he server load they're getting so their website and app will work and people can just check.
  21. I signed up today. Card should be here in a week. I WILL REPORT MY FINDINGS.exe
  22. I'm going on the opposing theory here. Anything involving Reigns will be a random Raw main event at most. May the better man win!
  23. So it looks like the Takeover main event is getting Strong added after all. What bizarre booking this whole thing has had, if that's really the case and there's not going to be some kind of swerve. I wonder if Asuka and Ember Moon are going to main event?
  24. This is real good. My instinct is that it's probably my least favorite QOTSA album, but it's more because a handful of little issues than the music itself not being great. - "Un-Reborn Again" is definitely my favorite song. Delightfully weird, almost Bowie-esque, but totally compelling. - "The Evil Has Landed" is a great jam that resembles Zeppelin, and the bridge in particular is maybe the finest moment of the whole record with Jon Theodore's ridiculous drumming, but I think the last minute is a really unfortunate miss. There's nothing wrong with it, but it's the big moment you'd really expect to kick it into overdrive and take the record to the next level, and it just kinda peters out with a generic riff that doesn't go anywhere, and doesn't hit hard enough to justify it. - "Head Like a Haunted House", "Domesticated Animals", and "Hideaway" are all undisputed wins. The first is a total joy, going 100mph and constantly feeling like it's about to derail. "Hideaway" is sultry and dark, reminds me of Peepshow-era Siouxsie. - The first two songs are both good, somewhat standard QOTSA single fare. There's an emphasis on groove which sets up the album's direction well. Neither are especially memorable to me, but that's almost always been the case with QOTSA singles. - Of the two ballads, "Villains of Circumstance" is a home run closer with some career-best Homme lyrics nestled in the verses. "Fortress", on the other hand, is hampered by some career-worst Homme lyrics throughout. The music good, kind of reminds me of "Into the Hollow" from Era Vulgaris, but it's the worst on the record. - Overall Ronson's production is a mixed bag. It's punchy, and has that "air sucked out" sound that works great with a pair of good overear headphones, and I'm sure he aided a lot with the synth parts, but the mixing of Theodore's drums is almost unforgivable. Great drumming has always been core to the band's sound, and this was the full-length studio debut of the most technically proficient drummer they've ever had. - On the plus side, this is also the probably the most focused they've sounded as a unit since Songs for the Deaf. There seems to be emphasis on doing away with the the revolving door line-up and sticking with this group of five as THE band, and it shows. Mikey Shoes's bass in particular is a highlight and the best bass I think I've heard from Queens post-Oliveri.
